Courses Professional Master’s Program in Orthodontics

Prof. Fernanda Angelieri – DDS, MSc, PhD

Education and Professional Activities

Dr. Angelieri is an orthodontist (Certificate and Masters degrees) and Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) in Orthodontics from University of São Paulo, Bauru Dental School. She has a Post-doctoral Fellowship in Orthodontics from The University of Michigan (USA). She is Instructor Professor in Orthodontics at Guarulhos University (Brazil).

She is Associate Editor of the Dental Press Journal of Orthodontics, and a member of the Editorial Board of American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Journal of Applied Oral Science and Brazilian Dental Science. She has been a collaborator with The Angle Orthodontist, European Journal of Orthodontics, Progress in Orthodontics and Acta Odontologica Scandinavica.

Research Interests

Her main research field is the maturation of the facial sutures on cone beam computed tomography, and its correlation with orthopedic treatment as rapid maxillary expansion and maxillary protraction. Other areas of research include: diagnosis and treatment of Class II malocclusion, with emphasis in stability and relapse; low-level laser in orthodontic movement, orthodontic materials and mutagenicity and cytotoxicity of orthodontic materials.

Other highlights

During her stay at The University of Michigan, she developed and introduced a classification of midpalatal and zygomaticomaxilary sutures maturation on cone beam computed tomography, a novel method for prediction of rapid maxillary expansion and maxillary protraction, respectively. It is important to stress that, before these classifications, these treatments were clinically unpredictable for late adolescents and juveniles.
