Dra. Figueiredo es Periodoncista (Especialidad y Magister/Maestría) y recibió su grado de Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) en Periodoncia en la Faculdade de Odontologia de Araraquara de la Universidade do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Es Vicerrectora de Postgrado e Investigación (2015) en la Universidad de Guarulhos (Brasil).
Es miembro de la International Association for Dental Research (IADR), del IADR Periodontal Research Group y del IADR Women in Science Network Group.
Líneas de investigación
Su principal campo de investigación es la etiología y tratamiento de las infecciones periodontales, con énfasis en Ensayos Clínicos Aleatorizados que evalúan los efectos clínicos y microbiológicos de diferentes tratamientos sobre la periodontitis. Otras áreas de investigación incluyen: halitosis, peri-implantitis, la influencia del control de placa supragengival y modelos de biofilm in vitro y ex vivo.

La Dra. Figueiredo ha recibido varios Fondos para Investigación de la Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP). El Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) le ha otorgado una Beca de Productividad desde 2007, reconociendo sus actividades de investigación. En 2014, una de sus publicaciones (Pérez-
Chaparro et al. 2014) fue seleccionada para el F1000Prime, y fue recomendada como siendo de particular importancia en el área periodontal por el Dr. Robert Palmer, un renombrado investigador del NIDCR (MD, EE.UU.).
