Education and Professional Activities
Dr. Figueiredo is a periodontist (Certificate and Masters degrees) and received her PhD degree (2000) in Periodontology from the Araraquara School of Dentistry, São Paulo State University, Brazil. She is the Dean for Graduate Studies and Research (2015) at Guarulhos University (Brazil).
She is a member of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), of the IADR Periodontal Research Group and of the IADR Women in Science Network Group.
Research Interests
Her main research field is the etiology and treatment periodontal infections, with emphasis on Randomized Clinical Trials evaluating the clinical and microbiological effects of different treatment on periodontitis. Other areas of research include: halitosis, peri-implantitis, the influence of supragingival plaque control and in vitro and ex vivo biofilm models.
Other highlights
Dr. Figueiredo has received several Research Grants from the São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP). The Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) have granted her a scholarship of productivity in research since 2007, recognizing her research activities. In 2014, one of her publications (Pérez-Chaparro et al. 2014) was selected for the F1000Prime, and it was recommended as being of special significance in the periodontal field by Dr. Robert Palmer, a renowned researcher at NIDCR (MD, USA).
