Profa. Gabriela Giro - DDS, MSc, DMSc

Education and Professional Activities
Dr. Giro is a periodontist (Certificate, Masters and PhD degrees) from Sao Paulo State University/Forsyth Institute (USA) and has a Post-doctoral Fellowship in Periodontics from Sao Paulo State University and Implant dentistry from Guarulhos University. She is associate professor of the graduate Program in Dentistry at Guarulhos University (Brazil).

Research Interests
Her main research field is the bone biology around dental implants with great emphasis in the systemic factor that influence wound repair and bone metabolism. Other areas of research interest are gingival tissue graft incorporation and bone metabolism biomarkers, host response in peri-implantitis, gene expression of immune response associate with peri-implantitis and periodontitis.

Other highlights
She has received some important awards, including the Young Research Award from Latin America Federation of International Association of Dental Research (2007), 5 Award in Plenary poster presentation in Periodontics from the Brazilian Division of IADR (2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009), the IAP Clinical Research Award (2015), the Lester Burket Award in Basic Science Category, by the American Academy of Oral Medicine (2010). Further, Dr. Giro has an ISI h-index of 11.
