In the week of September 3, 2017, the 34th Meeting of SBPqO (Brazilian Society of Dental Research) was held in Campinas, São Paulo. More than 3000 scientific papers involving approximately 7000 researchers were presented at this congress and 108 awards were distributed. Over the years, SBPqO has created different categories of awards, many of which include cash prizes awarded by various sponsors. A very interesting one, called "Research in Industry", was presented last year by Prof. Altair Cury, former president of the IADR Brazilian Division. This award is awarded to the best company-funded study in academic / research institutions. This year's winner was a study by researchers at the University of Guarulhos and sponsored by Colgate Palmolive (Piscataway, USA). The main author of this study was Bernal Stewart, a former PhD student. In addition to this award, the team of researchers from the University of Guarulhos received four other awards, among them the Joseph Lister Young Investigators Award, awarded to Prof. Bruno Bueno.

Magda Feres, coordinator of the Postgraduate Program at the University of Guarulhos commented: "It was very gratifying to see the recognition of the work we are doing in our graduate program. This achievement is only possible due to a huge team effort due to the hard work of all teachers and students, as well as the support of our University and several funding agencies such as CNPq, CAPES and NIH.
